Welcome to Sherwood Miniature American Shepherds
We are a small hobby breeder and exhibitor of Miniature American Shepherds,
located in northwest Indiana.
Our dogs live in our home with us and are very much a part of our everyday life.
We have a large backyard which is perfect for them to run, play, exercise and practice the
many activities we participate in.
We want dogs that adhere to the breed standard not only structurally, but also in their versatility, trainability and wonderful temperaments.
We show in conformation and performance events.
Entertain with trick dog shows and have also certified therapy dogs,
making visits to nursing homes, hospitals and schools.
These are the same traits we strive to breed for in the puppies we produce.

Key Characteristics of Miniature American Shepherds
Members of the AKC Herding Group
Height: 13–18 inches Weight: 20–40 pounds Life Expectancy: 13–15 years
Miniature American Shepherds are small, eye-catching herding dogs. They have almond-shaped eyes in a variety of colors, and one eye may be a different color from the other.
Their tails are either naturally short or docked,
and they have high-set triangular ears that hang over toward the front.
The Miniature American Shepherd’s medium-length double coat is weather
resistant and can be black, blue merle, red or red merle.
These dogs may also have white markings or tan points on the coat, so having more than one color is not uncommon.
Miniature American Shepherds are protective, loyal, intelligent and versatile.
They are comfortable on a farm herding livestock or in the city as a companion pet.
As active herding dogs, Miniature American Shepherds need multiple daily walks or a jog to expel energy. Play that adds mental stimulation, such as games, agility
and learning tricks is recommended.
herding dogs are used to having a job to do and enjoy working,
especially with their people.
An occasional brushing during the week is all that’s needed to prevent matting of a Miniature American Shepherd’s coat.
Bathe as needed. Their nails grow quickly, so they need to be trimmed often.
